The best.

I was going to put some words down before Bub passed. Sadly I couldn't find what was needed. So I feel now is the time.

I was born into a very active and close knit family. And it always remained that way. Sadly my father passed when I was 7 and even though I have the best mum ever I felt lost. At this point Bub (also known as Dave) became my surrogate dad. Woodmansterne was my home away from home and we generally spent more time there than at home. I do have a funny story about leaving my mother's side whilst she was talking to her friend, as I wanted to get there sooner. Awaiting me was the finest Neapolitan ice cream that always awaited me once I reached my destination, and a kiss and hug from my favourite aunt. What more could a kid ask for?

I have many fond memories of that. From the spice rack sniffing contests (no one could ever quite nail baking soda) to watching Taxi with my cousin Steve lying on the living room floor. If I had no pyjamas for my stay it was no problem, Bub would offer up one of his huge Tshirts that would come down to my ankles. I also remember fondly the huge pillows that were kept under the stairs for us to use as furniture.

We were always close. All of us. But Bub was what I so desperately needed in my life. The most wonderful uncle any one could ever ask for. Family holidays were the best. From touring Europe to spending fun days in Hampshire at our favourite caravan, Restawhile. I also have a lot of fond memories of being told off for swinging in the mud before we were due to to out, too.

This has always been my family. This is my family. I am very grateful to spend additional time close to my family after returning from America, and it has been a real pleasure to share those laughs and love over the past 15 years. Many things come and go, people and memories are in your heart forever.

I think my only regret is not getting the chance to sing "We know what you're doing" to Bub as he did when we were relieving ourselves at the roadside on a long trip.

God speed Bub, I love you x

Andrew.
